Bahía Circular is a project that seeks to improve the recycling process in the rapidly-growing Bahía de Banderas area, dignify work and improve the quality of life of waste collectors, reduce single-use plastics in tourist establishments and implement the Circular Credit Mechanism (which is also being implemented in India, Brazil, Vietnam y Mexico) developed by our partner BvRio, through a community network of waste collectors and recycling intermediaries that provide environmental services and a network of responsible businesses. The organizations are located in San Pancho, Sayulita, Lo de Marcos and las Varas, beautiful coastal towns affected by tourist activities and the ineffective management of public waste. The mission of the Bahía Circular network of recyclers and intermediaries is to improve the income for collectors using Circular Credits and to improve their working conditions by providing better personal protective equipment (PPE). Our goals are to reduce plastic waste in the local ecosystem by creating a Circular Plastic Economy; raise awareness about community environmental education and collaborative recycling; and make use of digital tools such as Circular Action Hub and Cirplus to access financial opportunities and improve the marketability of the material. Another main mission of Bahía Circular is to create a Network of Responsible Businesses and tourist establishments in the area, recognizing the importance of their participation in the tourist education process and as medium generators. Each establishment must have a waste management and demonstrability plan. With the objective of reducing at least 30% of the waste that ends up in the sanitary landfill. Each establishment will receive a framed diploma for their commitment and participation, waste management consultancy and mention on the website and social profiles of Entreamigos network. With the Responsible Business Network, each establishment will help the conservation of ecosystems, attracting conscious tourism that will inject more capital into the local economy and a better quality in the community reflected in abundance and clean public spaces.
